Datastrip Demonstrates EAC Capabilities at the GovTech Conference in Durban, South Africa

Thame, UK (October 1, 2009) - Datastrip’s new generation EasyRead™ handheld biometric reader with Extended Access Control (EAC) capability was demonstrated at the recent GovTech conference and exhibition.

The EasyRead with EAC ePassport reading and inspection technology from secunet Security Networks AG was demonstrated using sample passports supplied by Trueb, Switzerland.

The recently launched EasyRead is the first and only mobile biometric device offering a “one-step” inspection procedure for securely validating Machine Readable Travel Documents (MRTDs) and verifying document holders. As well as reading first and second generation ePassports, the EasyRead also provides features to support identity management for national ID cards, visas and other ID documents.

“GovTech gave Datastrip the opportunity to showcase the EasyRead and its EAC reading capabilities, both of which were exceedingly well received by all visitors to the stand” said Patrick Gilmore, Datastrip’s Vice President, National Sales - AME. “With more and more countries deploying second generation biometric passports, Datastrip technology is becoming a major component in ePassport solutions” he adds.

Additionally, the EasyRead unit’s high-capacity data storage and hot-swappable replacement batteries boost its efficiency and reliability in the field. The unit’s capabilities can be expanded to include Bluetooth®, Wi-Fi and cellular network connectivity to remote databases.
