Datastrip DSVII®-SC Biometric Terminals Now Available with
Mobile VPN Security Software from NetMotion Wireless
EXTON, Pa. (September 15, 2008) — Field-proven handheld identification and verification devices from Datastrip Inc. can now be enabled with Mobility XE™ Mobile Virtual Private Network (Mobile VPN) protection from NetMotion Wireless Inc. The software-only VPN provides users of Datastrip DSVII®-SC biometric terminals with secure, continuous remote access to network resources and applications over any wired or wireless IP-based network.
Equipped with Mobility XE software, Datastrip’s DSVII-SC will seamlessly interface with most state and municipal networks to provide secure wireless data transmission for police, firefighters, emergency medical services and other first responders while they are in transit, even through gaps in network coverage.
Datastrip DSVII-SCs equipped with Mobility XE software are currently used by officers at a major police department in Louisiana.
“NetMotion is clearly the leader in their field, and we are thrilled to have this agreement in place to work with them for the long term,” said Joe Delaney, Datastrip’s vice president of sales and marketing. “It enables government entities to put mobile biometrics to work in critical applications with peace of mind that their networks and data are secure.”
Mobility XE software is also validated for FIPS 140-2, so it meets federal government standards for cryptography. When integrated with an automated fingerprint identification system (AFIS), the software offers the ability to rapidly identify individuals by securely comparing data against secured credentials, a local database and remote AFIS networks. The AFIS provides remote and timely access to fingerprints, facial images and individual records.
Datastrip’s two-pound DSVII-SC is designed to integrate with AFIS to provide a mobile component. It provides ID verification by reading contact and contactless chips on identification documents such as ID cards, driver’s licenses and other ID initiatives. The DSVII-SC combines a contact and contactless smart card reader, a 500-dpi fingerprint sensor for instant biometric matching, and a large color digital touchscreen display readable in direct sunlight or low light conditions — all in a compact Windows® CE.NET unit.
